That burning passion or desire you have had for such a long time and you're thinking...."How can I do this?"
Learning to play the piano or guitar has been a burning desire for you since you were a kid.
Over the years, the little voices have gotten louder and stronger, life got in the way, so you never got to learn.
Now, you're in a situation where you're either struggling to go out, find a hobby or voices are too loud "You're too old now to learn to play an instrument!"
First and foremost, "YOU ARE NEVER TOO OLD TO LEAN TO PLAY AN INSTRUMENT!!" or learn anything new come that! Where does that even come from?
"You're too old to do that!!"
"You're too old to dress like that?"
"You really can't do that at your age!!"
Why not! Who says you can not dress the way you want to? You put something on that you haven't worn for a while, and WOW! Who is that confident, smart looking person looking back at me?" "But what will other people think, can I really wear this at my age?" Of course you can! You look and feel smart and confident in what you're wearing, which you really haven't in, so many years.
Are you going to change that outfit? "NO!"
Going back to learning an instrument, a couple of years ago I had the privilege to teach an 84 year old lady, who came to me for Piano lessons. She explained to me that she had bought herself a keyboard and a book and taught herself to play the piano. She was amazing, I was so impressed with what she had achieved. She really only came to me for the missing bits of "Online lessons" miss/lack, human guidance.
We didn't have many lessons together as life got in the way and she had to put her playing on pause. So from this lady, take inspiration from her.
Dip your toe, so to speak in the water!
If it's too cold! Stop! Either it's not what you thought it would be or the time is not right for you yet. Doesn't mean you completely give up especially if those embers keep burning in the future.
If the water is not too cold.... you're enjoying it. Wow! you look good, you feel good! At that particular time of enjoyment does it actually matter how old you are? Of course not!
What is stopping you? Try it! you will actually enjoy it. The benefits of learning something new?
Keeping the mind ticking over, which might actually make you feel physically better. I once taught another lady, in her 60's who had MS the piano and because she was using her fingers on a daily basis kept her finger more supple for a little longer. How proud you will feel for achieving that one thing you have wanted to do for years but never got around to or felt you were too old.
Life is too short and age should never get in the way of learning something new!
Let me know what you wish to do and think you're too old or what you have achieved which you're proud of!
